SIG Beyond at Williams Elementary School: Academics
Academics
Each class will run for 10 weeks. Students can sign up for the course of their choice. In addition to courses, students will engage in additional
activities that support their many and varied needs beyond academic ones. During the 10 week period, students would engage two times in
each of the following activities:
Creative Thinking Activity | Social Event | Research Skills Activity | Current Events Analysis | Community Problem Activity
| Mysteries in History The great, unsolved mysteries of the past continue to intrigue us today. From Amelia Earhart’s disappearance, to the Kennedy assassination to the Lindbergh kidnapping, you’ll have a chance to explore the evidence to determine what really happened in these cases. Using primary sources, secondary sources, literature of the period, and good research techniques, students will pursue individual projects as well as hold a trial to determine who was really responsible for one of the great historical mysteries. |
| Sports Statistics Are you a sports fanatic? Do you live for March Madness, the World Series or the World Cup? Do you ever wonder how player stats are calculated? In this class students are given the opportunity to investigate the sport of their choice, accessing statistics through newspapers, surveys and the internet, and presenting their findings in a mode of their choice. Investigate the role of sports statisticians in the sports, business, and newspaper industry and plan your future as a leader at an organization of sports statisticians and historians, such as the Elias Sports Bureau. |
