Summer Institute for the Gifted at Sandy Spring Friends School
SIG offers gifted students:
  • Superior programs
SIG has the best well-rounded program for gifted students because we combine academics, social, cultural and recreational opportunities. Our 25 years of experience have made us the leading organization in the field. Learn about all the long-term benefits to SIG alumni in our recently published Program Outcomes Assessment.

  • Prominent academic institutions
SIG Residential programs are held at Amherst College, Bryn Mawr College, Dartmouth College, Emory University, Princeton University, UC Berkeley, UCLA, UT Austin, Vassar College, and other prestigious colleges and universities.

  • Dedicated instructors
SIG faculty bring a diversity of talent and skills from many areas. They are all local teachers and other professionals who commute to campus daily. The passions they bring to the program are enhanced by specified SIG training.

  • Innovative academic program
Students not only study traditional subjects, but also might encounter Socrates and Plato, design their own business, perform comedy improvisation, and learn in many other active and unique ways. Learning is fun!

  • Sports & recreational activities
The SIG academic program provides an opportunity for students to explore and develop social relationships during such sports and activities as swimming, fencing, and self defense at our campuses.

  • A safe and secure learning environment
Student safety, security and health are our top priority at SIG. All SIG programs are well staffed for careful supervision. We can be reached at the on-campus SIG office seven days a week. A registered nurse lives on campus during the program and is available 24-hours a day. Students can be reached by phone in an emergency.

  • Diversity in our student body
Make life-long friends with gifted students from the U.S. and around the world. Our diverse, international student body will expose your child to other cultures.

  • Outstanding campus facilities
Students experience the energy and excitement of campus life. While every campus is different, most have a computer lab, science facilities, library, indoor pool, tennis courts and playing fields.

  • Residential or day programs
Choose the program that is best for your child. Commuter option available at many campuses.

  • Education planning service
You will receive access to a “members only” SIG/NSGT exclusive website in association with Peterson’s.

  • Financial Reassurance
The World Class Coverage Plan of insurance provides many benefits, including program cancellation insurance due to medical reasons, or if either parent of the insured is laid off.
