Princeton University is a leading research university and outstanding undergraduate college. The University provides its students with academic, extracurricular and other resources that help them achieve at the highest scholarly levels and prepare them for positions of leadership and lives of service in many fields of human endeavor. Princeton was chartered in 1746 as the College of New Jersey and was officially renamed Princeton University in 1896 in honor of its host community of Princeton.

- The Continental Congress met in Nassau Hall, the oldest building on campus, when Princeton served as the capitol of the United States for approximately five months in 1783.
