SIG at Vassar College: Campus / Location
Vassar College, founded in 1861, is a highly selective, residential, coeducational liberal arts college. Ranked 12th in the U.S. News and World Report's "Best Colleges 2011," Vassar is renowned for pioneering achievements in education, for its long history of curricular innovation, and for the beauty of its campus. Vassar was one of the first U.S. colleges to offer courses in drama, psychology, and Russian. Vassar's thousand acre campus has a natural outdoor amphitheater seating 3,000, and a 280-acre ecological preserve and field laboratory. Among the 100 buildings on campus are examples of a variety of architectural styles ranging from that of the Tuileries to modernists.
