Summer Institute for the Gifted Saturday Programs

SIG Saturday Program

Program Overview

The Summer Institute for the Gifted is pleased to offer several Saturday Programs throughout the course of the academic year. During each six-week session, students in grades 1-6 are engaged in creative intellectual challenges that apply their knowledge of such academic topics as math, science and social studies, as well as promote the development of communication, leadership and problem-solving skills. Students are grouped by grade, with a unique problem scenario at each level. In the final portion of the program, students incorporate the skills and knowledge they have learned in building solutions to their problem.

Courses:

Grades 1 & 2 – Budding Botanists – Come learn more about the fascinating world of plants! Using what they already know about plants, students will role-play as botanists, working to solve real-world problems, such as how to use plants as fuel for cars.

Grades 3 & 4 – Preservation Park – Students will become geologists and environmental scientists as they work together to create a park that will help to preserve a shoreline in environmental crisis! By the end of the course, students will evaluate how people impact the environment and the planet's natural resources, and be able to implement conservation practices in their homes, schools and communities.

Grades 5 & 6 – Wonders of the World – In this course, students will explore the modern wonders of the world and role-play a committee of engineers and architects charged with designating the Seven Wonders of the 21st Century.
